Amarnath Yatra by two routes this year

Amarnath Yatra, 2024 offers two routes to pilgrims for the holy journey. Besides Pahalgam route there will be shorter Baltal toute to be taken. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has announced that the Baltal Route will remain open for the Yatra this year. This Year’s Yatra is going to commence on 29 June,2024 and would be concluded on August 19, 2024. The Shrine Board is responsible for better management of the Shri Amarnath Yatra as a whole.

The traditional route for the Amarnath Yatra is Jammu-Pahalgam-Chandanwari-Pissu Top-Sheshnag-Panchtarni and Holy Cave. Besides, there will be Sonamarg-Baltal-Holy Cave route to avail this year. From Jammu, one may come to Sonamarg via Srinagar and then to reach Baltal.

Baltal to Amarnath cave route

Baltal-Domail-Barari-Holy Cave is a 14 km. steep trek route, one way. In total 28 kms. including return journey. Ponies and dandies will be available to hire.

The trek starts from Baltal and the first point to reach is Domali area. The distance is around 2 km. From here, there is another 6-km trek to Barari and from Barari 4 km more to Sangam. From Sangam there will be left rest 2 kms. to reach the final destination, Amarnath Cave. This is the shorter route to reach the cave and takes only 1 to 2 days to complete the round trip.


It should be kept in mind that the route is bit difficult to trek due to the steep path and very fit ones should take this route.

Traditional Pahalgam to Amarnath Cave Route

Amarnath Yatra by Pahalgam route starts from the base camp at Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination of Jammu-Kashmir. Distance between Pahalgam and the first point to reach, Chandanwari is approx. 16 km. Mini buses run from Pahalgam to reach Chandanwari. The trail runs along the Lidder River with a dream-like scenic view. From Chandanwari, a 13 km trek takes you to Sheshnag and a further 4.6 km trek to Panchtarni. From Panchatarani a 2 km walk will take you to the Amarnath Cave.

The trail maintaining the route is: Pahalgam – Chandanwadi – Pissu Top – Zoji Bal – Naga Koti – Sheshnag – Warbal – Mahagunas Top – Pabibal – Panchtarni – Sangam – the Cave of Lord Shiva. This route is longer but easier senior pilgrims. Pahalgam to Amarnath Cave Yatra completes in around 3 to 5 days (one way).

For registration you go to the link ‘online services’ link on the website and will be nevigated to registration window. The registration fee for Amarnath Yatra, 2024 is Rs 150 per person.

Required information will be available on the above-mentioned website. Helicopter service can be booked through the website. Click on ‘fecilities’ link of the website and you will reach to the booking window.
