Old English Boarding House Now Is A Heritage Hotel In Darjeeling

torsa.in: Entering inside is going back in time to those glorious days when it used to serve as a English Boarding House, the oldest one in the Himalayas. It stands under the shadow of the Observatory Hill overlooking the famous Mall or Chowrasta of Darjeeiing town in the state of West Bengal, India. One will feel the vibe of that colonial and era in this heritage property with age-old furnitures, mirrors, high cilinged rooms, old fire places, old oil paintings and many more stories of the bygone days.

It is Windamere Hotel. An authentic colonial property of the British Raj era, Still is very lively maintaining its eclactic ambiance. It is not mere an Accommodation, it is an experience how it all was ‘back then’. The hotel authority informs that the place has been updated and restored, but never has been renoveted.

Originally Ada Villa built in 1841, was converted into a Boarding House in the late 1880’s for bachelor tea planters and British Raj Professionals. In 1939, it became ‘Windamere Hotel’. Until today the air of Windamere is
to a big extent similar to that of old English Boarding House days. For its excellence as a Colonial Hotel Windamere has achieved coveted award from the Prime Minister of India.

With Royal Suits, Daisy’s Music Room, Bearpark’s Parlour and the famous Windamere Bar where famous parties were held the hotel is still very lively. From the Observatory Hill mesmerizing sight of the Mt. Kanchengungha in clear weather is simply unforgetable.

Windamere’s in-house restaurant is another attraction for its guests. The restaurant serves both Continental and Indian cuisine. ‘Roly Poly Pudding’, authentically prepared porridge for breakfast, ‘cheese and onion pie’ will help you to trace the food culture of the Raj era. During dinner, the dining room is transformed into a candlelit affair.

Tariff
Double beded room tariff upto 30th September starts from ( in Indian Rupees) Rs. 9000. In November and December the minimum tariff will go up for the same to Rs. 10,000. In peak season,i.e., in November, December, January minimum double beded room tariff will go up to Rs.13,000. Tax will be added.
