Offbeat Kashmir: Tulail Valley

It is Tulail Valley. This sunning valley is now a gem in the offbeat tourism map of Jammu-Kashmir. The vally is a part of the Gurez Valley and streaches close to the  Line of c0ntrol between India and Pakistan. Though acess to the valley  requirs patience, it is an interesting journey as you entering deep in a remote valley. Geographically  Tulial is nearer to Gilgit-Baltistan administered by Pakistan compared to Srinagar.  Tulail is 200 KM away from Srinagar. Dawar is the main town of Gurez Valley and distance between Tulail and Dawar is 60 KM.

Tulail Valley expands at an average altitude of about 2,750 meters (9,022 feet) above sea level. the valley is bordered by Mushkoh Valley and Drass town to the east, Gurez Valley to the west, Kashmir Valley to the south and  Astore District in Gilgit-Baltistan across LOC to the north. The route to Tulial from Srinagar passes through Bandipora and  Razdan Pass.

Once you reach  Tulail Valley, lush green medows, mountain slops with forests, flowing river and villages (15-20 in number) will summon you inside. Solitude and untouched beauty of Tulail will bewilder you. Now, explore  Tulail. The valley comprises  villages including Barnoi, Chakwali, Angaikot, Husangam where ancient traditions and local culture can be experienced. The inhabitants of Tulail Valley  primarily belong to Darde and Shina tribes.

The ideal time to explore Tulail Valley is during the summer months, from May to September. The road to Tulail Valley remains closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall, particularly at the Razdan Pass. The journey can take around 8 hours by road from Srinagar. Some villages offer guesthouses and homestays with basic aminities. Alternatively Dawar may be the base for staying.
