Tiger Hill, the highest point of Darjeeling (West Bengal, India) is practically a balcony to see the Himalayas, specially The surreal view of Mt. Kanchenjungha. At sunrise, in clean weather, the peaks of the Kanchenjunga are illuminated forming a bewildering sight.

Tiger Hill is located 11 Km. away from the main town of Darjeeling and it lies at an altitude of 8500 feet . People gether in the early morning at the top of the hill to behold that mesmerizing sunrise on the Kanchenjunga range. Earth’s highest mountain above sea level, the Mount Everest (8848 m) is also visible from Tiger Hill. The distance in a straight line from Tiger Hill to the Mount Everest is 172 km. But, from the Tiger Hill Kanchenjunga (8598 m) looks higher than the Mt. Everest as it is several miles closer than the Everest.

On a clear day, distant Kurseong is visible to the south of Tiger Hill along with Teesta River, Mahananda River, Balason River and Mechi River meandering down to the south. Chumal Rhi mountain of Tibet, 135 km away, is visible over the Chola Range.

Senchel Wildlife Sanctuary is close to the Tiger Hill. The hill derives its name from the belief that it was once a haunt for Bengal tigers. Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary is the habitat for barking deer, wild boar, Himalayan black bear, Indian leopard, jungle cat, rhesus monkey, Assam macaque, and Himalayan flying squirrel. The sanctuary is rich in bird life also.
