It is a British colonial mansion facing the mighty Kanchenjunga mountain range located on the Durpin Dara Hill in Kalimpong, West Bengal. It is Morgan House built in the 1930s. It was Mr. George Morgan’s much loved estate. Mr. Morgan was an English jute marchent. Presently the property officially named as Morgan House Tourism Property, a boutique hotel managed by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation.
Tall chimneys, old, glass windows, gabled roofs, stone carvings, wooden staircase and ivy-covered walls of the Morgan House altogether forms an ambiance to feel.
Mr. George Morgan and Mrs. Morgan celebrated their wedding cerimoney here. Mrs Morgan died prematurely in this mansion. Mrs. Morgan was a rich Woman, she had indigo business. There are stories about her death. The property remained abondoned for a long time and ultimately was handed over to the West Bengal Tourism Department.
stories are there that sound of walking of someone in high heels on wooden corridors is heard in the night. Some believe that the ghost of Mrs. Morgan haunts the house. Whatever it is, staying in Morgan House is an experience as a whole.
The house is nestled in the estate across 16 acre of land surrounded by the establishment of Kalimpong Cantonment. It is 4 km away from kalimpong city centre area.
